The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green, is a well written and captivating book. It follows the story of a teenage girl named Hazel. Years ago she was diagnosed with lung cancer, and she is already past her life expectancy. She has been spending her days sitting at home and watching bad tv, having been taken out of school several years ago. She attends a cancer support group from time to time, where she meets a boy named Augustus Waters. Pretty quickly they fall in love, and experience the ups and downs of life together.
This book is great. It's funny, and I think it does a surprisingly good job at portraying the mind of a teenager. It's a good romance novel, and it does a great job at making you feel sympathy for cancer patients, but that isn't all its about, either. It's also a tragedy. It teaches a lesson that a lot happens in life that isn't fair. Suffering is inevitable, a part of life, a side effect. Not everything goes to plan, either, so when you find something that does work, go with it.
I stayed up super late reading this book. If you have read my other reviews, you'll know this is a bit of a pattern, but it only happens when I'm reading a book that's worth it. Overall, I would rate this book 9/10, taking off a point is because it feels cliche at times. Also, the end of the novel was too unhappy for me, although I know that's how it was intended to be.

I really liked your explanation of the book; you made it seem very captivating and interesting. I definitely want to try and read this book because I like books with some romance and tragedy aspects involved. Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteYour summary of the book was good. You explained it without giving anything away. I liked how you described the lesson it teaches. It certainly sounds like a book worth reading!
ReplyDeleteGreat review! Sounds like it is a great book and I love how you were able to portray how it's a romance and tragedy at the same time. Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteNice review! I read this before and completely agree with what you said. Great takeaway too, very deep :0
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I have never read the book before but other people around me have told me about the book along with the film. It sounds like a really interesting book. Maybe I'll read it sometime.
ReplyDeleteBruh I remember reading this book and being mad at the world because of the ending. The way you put the tragedy part is really good. I could never. I can't even explain how I feel about it which goes to show that you are good at writing down words. I don't even know what I am typing anymore but I think you get the idea. Great review!
